The Wollemi pine is one of the worlds oldest and rarest plants, dating back to the time of the dinosaurs.The recent discovery of 100 trees growing in the Australian outback,has meant that these fantastic trees can now be re-introduced. It is proving to be more adaptable and cold-hardy than its restricted subtropical distribution would suggest, tolerating temperatures between -5°C and 45°C with reports that it can survive down to -12°C . It is fine in full sun or full shade The photo shows the specimen in Kew Gardens which is in a cage to protect it from theft!
