Compact shrub often grown against walls or used as hedging. The sharp spines keeps out intruders such as people and animals. White flowers followed by orange red berries persisting into the winter. Can be pruned hard. Sun or part shade, any soil except waterlogged. Ht to 1.5m (5ft) in 10 years
