Gaultheria procumbens or Partridge Berry is a low growing and pretty evergreen shrub with white bell like flowers in autumn and big, bright red berries through winter. The flowers smell of germalene when crushed. Useful winter colour. Tolerates neglect, likes shade or part shade. Excellent in winter pots and containers, with pansy's heather etc. Prefers acidic, moist peaty soil or dig in plenty of compost when planting. In pots use ericaceous compost and feed. Ht 25cm, spread 30cm in 5 years
