Hardy plants with colourful flowers or foliage, the ideal filler plants for most gardens. Excellent value as unlike bedding plants they come back year after year. In winter most lose their foliage and disappear for a few months but in spring they come back bigger & better than the previous each year. When the clump gets quite big they can be dug up & divided in early spring, giving you more plants for no extra money! Some are evergreen which means they keep their leaves through winter.
Most perennials are tolerant of a wide range of soil conditions except those which are waterlogged (perennials which tolerate wet conditions are listed in the pond plant section). They thrive in sun or part shade, & a few tolerate full shade. Remove old foliage in autumn or spring (evergreen types should be have the old foliage removed in spring)

Planting
Container grown specimens can be planted at any time of year provided the ground is not waterlogged or frozen. Dig a hole twice as wide & twice as deep as the root ball. If the soil is poor mix the extracted soil with equal amounts of compost & a handful of bone meal, which stimulates good root development. Tease out some of the roots from the root ball & place in the hole so that it is planted exactly the same depth as it was in the pot. Backfill the hole with the soil/compost mix & firm in with your heel to leave the plant vertical. Water well after planting. Summer planted specimens will need regular watering to stop them drying out for the first few months. Autumn & winter planted specimens will probably not need watering after planting

In addition, hardy plants are guaranteed for 2 years from the date of your invoice. All we ask is that you pack any returns securely, & that the package is made available for collection by the parcel service during normal office hours. (We may ask you to post small items back to us. In this instance we will reimburse you the full cost of postage, in addition to the value of the items you return)
