Magnolia stellata or Star Magnolia is a compact, bushy shrub which makes 1.2m x 1.2m after ten years. The pure white, star shaped flowers, appear in spring before the leaves develop. Magnolia stellata flowers from an early age, unlike many other types. An excellent specimen plant in the centre of a lawn or in the border. Could be grown in a large pot, using John Innes Compost. Sun or part shade, best in a sheltered spot. RHS Award of Garden Merit
