Jasmine sambac Arabian Jasmine - Maid of Orleans

£14.99

Jasminum sambac or Arabian Jasmine is a woody evergreen shrub valued in many parts of the world. It has beautiful creamy white flowers which have a heady jasmine perfume and, best of all, it flowers almost all year round. Given good growing conditions it can reach 1.5m in a pot, but is easily kept smaller with regular pruning. This variety, Maid of Orleans, has the most luxuriant foliage with large, rounded leaves making an excellent backdrop for the stunning, single flowers. Jasminum sambac is the plant used to flavour jasmine tea, making perfumes and it is used in Asian relegious ceremonies, including most Indian weddings. It is used a great deal in Hawaii and is the national plant of the Phillipines

Make your own Jasmine Tea. This is one of the best varieties for making Jasmine Tea - just immerse 10 to 12 fully open flowers in half a pint of hot water for 15 to 30 minutes (you can adjust the quantities and immersion time to suit your taste). Strain and add the liquid to flavour your cup of ordinary black tea, or you can just drink the jasmine flower liquid as a herbal tea. For a milder flavour just add a few jasmine flowers to your regular dried tea leaves while in the tea caddy

Jasmine sambac prefers full sun but will tolerate part shade. Grow in moist but well drained compost, never stand in water for more than 30 mins. This compact variety is also ideal on windowsills. The higher the temperature the better it flowers but they can tolerate temperatures as low as 3C. Hot days and cool nights suit it perfectly. Let the plant dry out then give a good drenching, feed often in spring and summer, keep drier in winter. Prune often to keep bushy and encourage flowering as it flowers on new wood.

Supplied in a 1 litre pot height approx 30cm+, spread 25cm, plants with at least 3 branches (actual plants pictured but no flowers at present as they are in winter condition). Next day delivery if ordered by 12 noon (Mon-Fri)
