Care
Indoor pots are very easy to grow either in a pot, bowl or even in a hyacinth glass. If you are using a pot with drainage just use ordinary compost and plant them quite close together, with just the top of the bulb poking through the compost. If using a bulb bowl or similar container, where there is no drainage, use bulb fibre and be careful not to overwater. After planting water the bulbs and stand the pot/bowl in a cool, dark place such as a garage or a shed until the shoots are about 10cm high, this will take about two months, depending on temperature. Keep them just moist, feeding is not necessary. Then bring into a light and the flower bud will appear and open within a few weeks. Delay bringing them into a warm room until just before the flowers open. One of the easiest ways of growing a hyacinth is to use a hyacinth glass, where the roots simply grow down into water, a method which always fascinates children. After flowering they can be planted in the garden where they will flower the following year in spring
