Mirablis jalapa also known as the 'Marvel of Peru' or 'Four O' Clock' flower is a tuberous perennial with brightly coloured, red, pink, magenta, yellow & white flowers. It should be more widely grown as it makes such a fabulous show over a long season. Mirablis jalapa has fragrant flowers and different colours appear on the same plant. They appear in late afternoon and die by morning but they produce lots of flowers so last from early to late summer. Best in a sheltered spot, full sun and well drained soil. Ht to 60cm (2'). Keep in a cool, frost free place and plant out when danger of frost has passed. After that they can be ususally overwintered in situ by giving them a mulch of compost in winter
