Stipa gigantifolia is perhaps the most spectacular and graceful grass with stems often over 2 metres and masses of oat like panicle flowers which persist through the autumn and winter. Native to Spain, Portugal and Morocco but will thrive in the Uk given full sun and well drained soils, it will not survive the winter in waterlogged conditions. Stipa gigantifolia makes fresh new foliage in spring so cut away the old foliage and flowers in late winter.
