Blueberries are a very rewarding crop being expensive in the supermarkets and yet relatively easy to grow. They need acid soils so in most parts of the country they are best grown in a large pot of ericaceous compost, watered with rain water and fed with ericaceous plant feed. Alternatively, if you prefer to plant them in the ground, incorporate plenty of ericaceous compost mixed with soil from the planting hole before you backfill with the mixture. Still use ericaceous feed in the spring and summer plus top dress with composted pine needles or similar acidic mulch, once or twice per year. Provided you follow these requirements you will be delighted with the number of berries you will be picking over quite a few weeks. The season can be extended by using varieties which fruit early, mid-season or late
This year we are once again offering BIG blueberry plants that will crop this year, but, in addition we have some small, two year old bushes which have branches but which need to get more established before they crop well. To compensate they are a lot cheaper than the large bushes
