Indoor Ferns come from sub-tropical and tropical parts of the world which like similar conditions to outdoor ferns, without being frost hardy. They still retain the graceful appearance of their cold tolerant cousins and they make ideal houseplants provided you choose where to place them. They like damp conditions and dislike full sun, although most will tolerate a few hours of full sun early morning. Two of the best places to grow indoor ferns is the kitchen and bathroom, both offer humid conditions which most ferns require. In drier rooms you may have to stand the ferns on a dish or tray of damp pebbles or gravel, this will create a microclimate aroud the plant which will help to keep the foliage fully hydrated
They require little attention, keep the compost just moist and give a liquid feed once a fortnight. Occasionally you will have to cut off an old leaf and that's it. Pot on once a year in spring using multipurpose compost
