Diospyros kaki - Persimmon Tree

Starting at: £41.99

The Oriental Persimmon, Diospyros kaki, is a native of China and Japan where it is valued for it's edible fruit, sold in UK supermarkets as Sharon fruit. In this country it makes an excellent large shrub or small tree with shining green leaves that turn glorious orange and purple colour in autumn. This persimmon will produce it's edible fruits during hot summers.

If planting out Diospyros kaki deep, rich soils and sun or part shade. They do not grow well in acidic or waterlogged soils. They are frost hardy withstanding temperatures down to about -14°C although the young growth in spring can be damaged by late frosts so grow the plants in a sheltered position, out of early morning sun. Growing next to a sunny wall will help the fruit ripen, or grow in a conservatory or under glass for the most reliable crops. The trees at Kew produce ripe fruit each year in November or December.

Supplied in 24cm diameter pots, ht approx. 1.6 - 1.8m, trees with good branches already formed. Shipped within 3 days
