£9.99

Clematis Westerplatte is a very free flowering hybrid with a lovely rich, velvety, mahogany red coloured flower. Westerplatte flowers from June till September and is suitable for containes, growing 2 - 3 metres. Westerplatte has a compact growth habit and is an excellent choice for growing in a container. Thrives facing South, East or West. Supplied in 2 litre pots, height approx. 1m, tied to a cane. In winter they will be dormant but this is still a good time to plant unless the ground is frozen or waterlogged

Care:
Prepare a good planting hole about 45cm square and 45cm deep. Break up the soil in the bottom with a fork or spade. Mix some peat or compost with the extracted soil, and add a handful of bonemeal. Soak the plant in a bucket of water for 20 minutes before planting. Remove the pot and loosen the roots so a few are clear of the rootball, but taking care not to damage them. Place in hole so the top of the rootball is about 10cm below the ground level. Backfill with the extracted soil/compost mix and firm gently. If your soil dries out quickly bury a piece of drainpipe next to the rootball when planting so water can be supplied direct to the roots during dry spells. Feed often for the best flowers with a high potassium fertiliser such as tomato food from spring till just before flowering. Do not feed when flowering as it can reduce the flowering period but start again after flowering ends.

Pruning:
If needed, prune Feb/Mar by removing all dead or weak stems, and cut back all other stems by varying lengths, to two strong buds
