Clematis montana Grandiflora Alba has white flowers and dark green foliage. It grows vigorously and is free flowering through spring to early summer. Clematis montana hybrids can be used for covering unsightly objects or fences.  Grows to height of the climbing support but if this is large such as a tree it can reach 6 metres or more.  Suitable for any aspect including north facing. Flowers on previous seasons wood so no pruning required unless it is becoming overgrown. Supplied in 2 litre pots, height approx. 0.6 m, tied to a cane. In winter they will be dormant but this is still a good time to plant unless the ground is frozen or waterlogged

Care:
Prepare a good planting hole about 45cm square and 45cm deep. Break up the soil in the bottom with a fork or spade. Mix some peat or compost with the extracted soil, and add a handful of bonemeal. Soak the plant in a bucket of water for 20 minutes before planting. Remove the pot and loosen the roots so a few are clear of the rootball, but taking care not to damage them. Place in hole so the top of the rootball is about 10cm below the ground level. Backfill with the extracted soil/compost mix and firm gently. If your soil dries out quickly bury a piece of drainpipe next to the rootball when planting so water can be supplied direct to the roots during dry spells. Feed often for the best flowers with a high potassium fertiliser such as tomato food from spring till just before flowering. Do not feed when flowering as it can reduce the flowering period but start again after flowering ends.

Pruning:
No pruning required except to remove dead or weak stems, and to reduce excessive growth, either in spring or just after flowering
