Nepenthes pitcher plants, sometimes known as Monkey Cups, are some of the most unusual carnivorous plants but they need high humidity at all times and are best grown in a warm greenhouse or terrarium. Nepenthes sanguineum is one of the Highland group of pitcher plants which are the easier types to grow. The pitchers are very variable in colour ranging from dark chocolate brown to red. Nepenthes sanguineum can get rather large with pitchers up to 35cm in length. Pot on this species in spring, for best results use the special compost for this type of pitcher plant.
